Two wheels · Permit to endorsement

Motorcycle lessons

Learn to ride on our range before you meet traffic. Honda Rebel 300s and Kawasaki Ninja 650s for learners, a BMW R 1300 GS for returning riders, helmets and gloves included, and coaches who ride every day of the season.

Route

From first ride to the endorsement

Nobody rides on a public road with us until they can stop, turn and swerve on the range without thinking about the clutch.

A coach in a high-visibility yellow shirt reviews notes with four helmeted riders standing beside parked touring motorcycles on an open practice lot.
Every range session starts with a briefing, helmets on.
  1. BMV

    Get the permit

Ohio’s learner stage for riders is the motorcycle temporary instruction permit: a knowledge test and a vision check at the BMV. It comes with restrictions, and the BMV lists them in full. Bring it to your first riding session.

  2. Weekend 1

    Beginner rider course

Two days. The first morning is in the classroom; the rest is on our range on a Honda Rebel 300 or Kawasaki Ninja 650: clutch and throttle, first gear, slow-speed turns, braking, swerving.

  3. Weeks 2–6

    Practice and private lessons

Most new riders book one or two private lessons to fix the thing that still feels shaky: U-turns, hill starts, or braking hard in a straight line.

  4. Test day

    Skills test and endorsement

The BMV’s motorcycle skills test is a set of low-speed exercises on a marked course. We lay it out cone for cone on our range first. Pass, and the motorcycle endorsement goes on your license.

What to wear

Gear, and the season

  • We lend: a DOT-certified helmet and gloves in your size.
  • You bring: boots that cover the ankle, long heavy pants (jeans are fine), a jacket with long sleeves, and glasses or a visor.
  • Season: April to November. Light rain is part of riding; lightning, ice and gravel-strewn roads are not, and we rebook at no charge.

Ohio also runs its own state rider-training program. Check the Ohio BMV for how each course relates to the skills test; ours prepares you for the BMV test and does not replace it.
